A final disadvantage of BBs in airguns is that over time they may actually wear down a barrel's rifling because instead of being made of a soft lead like airgun pellets, they are made of steel that is as hard as the rifle barrel. Airsoft Ammo

Airsoft ammo is made of plastic spherical projectiles generally measuring 6mm in diameter. These plastic balls have a low density, and as a result, they will lose their velocity quickly. Airsoft gun ammo is intended to be fired at velocities of around 400 feet per second or less.
